This position is based in the local mental health service of this South Island health service. There are two hospitals within this service with the main hospital having 350 beds and the second, only 116 beds. There are 3000 multidisciplinary staff servicing over 180,000 people. There is a close relationship with the local university. Services provided in Mental Health, Women's Health, Public Health, Paediatrics, Maternity, Oncology, Emergency, Intensive Care as well as Medical and Surgical Services. Patient centered continuum of care model used.

This city is widely regarded as the best preserved Victorian and Edwardian heritage city in the southern hemisphere. This is a city by the sea on the South Island. It has white sand beaches, bush clad hills, tidal inlets and volcanic landforms. It's physical vitality is reflected in the spirit of its people. The population of 120,000 has produced many of New Zealand's greatest writers, poets, artists and musicians. The city's strong cultural bias is seen in its modern public art gallery which houses one of New Zealand's best international art collections, its strong professional theatre, and its museums and libraries that rank among the country's finest. The heart of the city is lined with restaurants and sidewalk cafes. Modern shopping complexes trade alongside boutiques, galleries and weekly craft markets. The 'kiwi' passion for water sports is met by this city's long natural harbor - ideal for wind surfing, yachting, kayaking, canoeing , rowing and fishing. Surf's up all year round on these beaches with on of the beaches being considered one of New Zealand's best for surfing.

This Mental Health service requires the services of a Psychiatry Registrar to support their team in providing quality service to their patients, families and the general community. The service is an accredited training scheme with an excellent reputation. Salary ranges from $80,000 - $120,000 NZD per annum depending on experience.
