Immediate Response to Proposed Training Changes
Wednesday, 06 May 2009
A Joint Statement by ANZAPT and the RRC
April 29, 2009

On April 27 2009, trainees would have received a mailout from the College about several proposed changes to our training program.  Some of these changes allow for more flexibility in training, and are to be welcomed.  But some have the potential to severely restrict training for a relatively large portion of the trainee body.

Specifically, providing the flexibility to do the "long case" and write up in either BT or AT has immense merit.  However, the rest of the proposal appears to have been very badly thought out and quite inconsiderate of psychiatry registrars.

The proposal is to change the pre-requisites for sitting the clinical exams.  At the same time, there is a proposal to remove the "Preclinical Advanced Training" mechanism by which trainees could have up to 12 months of training credited towards AT if they were held-up in passing the clinical exams.
